Most segments of the Carolina Thread Trail are open. Outdoor activities along trails and greenways are permitted by North and South Carolina stay-at-home orders as long as people stay at least 6 feet apart. In Mecklenburg County, park and greenway parking lots are closed to cars and access is limited to pedestrians and cyclists.
Thread Trails closed in our region are listed below. We will continue to keep you updated through social media, our online trail map and this page. If you have specific questions, please contact the local municipality where the trail is located.

We are aware that some trails in our network are being heavily used. Since both North Carolina’s and South Carolina’s stay-at-home orders include access to outdoor exercise as essential, we are reluctant to close trails and are relying on individuals to follow the physical distancing requirements included in those orders. With the help of local authorities, we are monitoring the use of all our trails and making day by day decisions.
Please abide by all physical distancing requirements when using the Carolina Thread Trail so we can continue to keep it open. Maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and other trail users, and do not gather in groups larger than 3 in South Carolina and 10 n in North Carolina (per the above government orders). We appreciate your cooperation.

We have made the decision to cancel all programs and events through the end of April. As of now all trails on Catawba Lands Conservancy property will remain open, as experts are continuing to encourage people to spend time outside!
During Mecklenburg County’s stay at home order, outdoor activity is permitted including hiking, biking, running, and using the greenways as long as individuals comply with social distancing requirements. Additionally, by Executive Order of the South Carolina Governor’s Office, three or more people in a group is prohibited until further notice. Please continue to follow CDC guidelines and to practice social distancing by remaining at least six feet from others on the trail.

There’s nothing we love more than connecting community members like you to the beautiful natural places of the Carolina Piedmont. However, the health and safety of you, our team and our volunteers is incredibly important to us. Out of an abundance of caution regarding COVID-19, and based on guidance from the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control, we have made the decision to cancel all programs and events through the end of April. We will continue to monitor the situation and evaluate beyond March as we receive further guidance from health organizations.
We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we all navigate this challenge together. As of now our office is open regular business hours, however, many of our staff are working remotely and response times may be a little longer than normal.
If you are looking for a way to get outside and out of confined spaces, we encourage you to explore the Thread Trail on your own, while maintaining safe social distancing. You can find a trail near you at carolinathreadtrailmap.org. We look forward to bringing our programs and events back to you when it is safe to do so!
