Join Carolina Thread Trail in our mission to complete the Matthews-Belk South Fork River Corridor. With over 23 continuous miles of trail following the scenic South Fork River, the MBSFRC is poised to be an outdoor destination for the entire Charlotte region.
Over half of the trail is already built. We need you to help us cross the finish line.
The Carolina Thread Trail (CTT) is a 15-county network of trails and greenways in North and South Carolina around the Charlotte region.
Today, about 500 miles of CTT are open. When it’s complete, the network will be 1600 miles. Long sections like the MBSFRC are key projects for the overall network.
The CTT is the sister agency of the Catawba Lands Conservancy.
The MBSFRC will be a connected greenway and trail network threading together special parks, destinations, green space, and public art, all linked by the Carolina Thread Trail, that will touch thousands of residents in multiple thriving communities.

The MBSFRC connects five vibrant and historic communities that are redefining themselves around outdoor recreation. Each community has its own unique character and hospitality that will make visitors want to spend time exploring the trails.
You can walk a mile or run a marathon on the trail! The estimated mileage of the trail corridor is 23 miles, but as the trail develops, weaving around hills and bridging streams, the trail mileage is expected to grow.
Across the US, long connected trail corridors like the MBSFRC attract visitors who want to spend multi-day trips exploring the outdoors. The magnitude of this trail project will reach beyond the Charlotte region, drawing visitors from all over the United States.
We need your help to obtain the necessary funds to be able to open trails on Spencer Mountain in 2026.
